Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The Murshidabad district government hospital, located 200 kilometers away from Kolkata, is under scrutiny following the death of 10 children within a 24-hour timeframe. The incident has raised concerns among local residents, who have alleged gross negligence on the part of doctors.
Responding to the outcry, the District Health Department promptly formed an inquiry committee on Friday. Hospital officials have since offered explanations, asserting that the children who succumbed to their illnesses were already grappling with serious health conditions.
However, community members challenge this assertion, questioning the high number of child fatalities in a facility typically attended by seriously ill patients.
The Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital reported that among the 10 deceased children, three were born at the hospital, while seven were transferred from other medical facilities for treatment.
A senior official clarified that the infants faced various health challenges, including heart diseases, neurological problems, septicemia, and low birth weight. As the district health department's investigation unfolds, hospital authorities maintain their stance, emphasizing that all deaths were attributed to pre-existing and severe health conditions.
